Butler's Louisiana Kitchen

In case you didn't notice, there's a new restaurant in Long Valley. It's right next to the PNC Bank in the space that the pie place was.

Being a big fan of Cajun cuisine, I had to try it out. So here's a few words about it. (FYI: I'm not financially or personally associated with the restaurant or workers. I'm just a LV resident.)

The store has been redecorated and has about a dozen well-spaced tables for 4. There were about a dozen or so people there when my guest and I arrived about 8pm Friday, so there were several tables available. I don't think you need to worry about reservations unless you have a big group. It is BYOB (don't forget the convenient store a few doors down has many wines and packaged goods).

The workers were quite friendly and attentive. They were professional but not too stodgy/serious.

The menu has a good range and the prices are reasonable (the appetizers are a tad pricey).

The appetizers arrived quickly and the entrées came right as we finished the appetizers. The dishes were very enjoyable and authentic. The flavors were spot on with spicy zing where appropriate.

The little touches were there including heated plates, a carafe of water, etc. I'd say the only downside is the hot tea was Lipton in tea bags, however this seems to be common to most restaurants (even the more upscale ones). But really, how hard is it to carry a selection of better teas (and to serve it in a pot)?

Cajun/Creole cuisine is hard to find in northern NJ. We're lucky to have a worthy representative here in Long Valley. I hope that they continue to do well, grow, and turn a fair profit.

In summary my first experience was quite enjoyable (as was my dinner companion's). The group of 8 across from us also seemed to be having a great time and they complimented the food.

I haven't been there yet but have heard the food is great. Can't wait to get in there!!!

We also just ate at Butler's and I highly recommend it.

It was very relaxing and the waiter was very nice. We even met the chef, Larry Butler.

The food was excellent with, at least for me, the right amount of zip. From appetizer to dessert (very good bread pudding)everything was great.

With most restaurants in the area offering the same...Italian, Chinese, etc. it was something special to have a restaurant that offers different and good food.

Try it and I hope you will enjoy it as well.

My husband and I went to Butlers last night and it was EXCELLENT, I had the special Eggplant Pirogue w/ Shrimp and crab it was very tasty, My husband had the other special which was fried Catfish, It was our first experience trying Catfish and it was really good it came w/ a meniure sauce which was out of this world, I will definately go back. Im just so excited we have a different experience her in Long Vally!!

In reading the comments above I have to tell you that they do in fact have a wide variety of Tazo teas, and Larry Butler is actually the owner not the chef. I got the chance to met the Chef her name is Jessica Benson and she was very gracious to us, a word to the wise the place was packed so I highly recommend reservations on a Friday or Saturday night.
