Winter Storm Watch in Effect
.. WINTER STORM WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM SATURDAY MORNING THROUGH SATURDAY EVENING...
* Locations....Southern Poconos...the Lehigh valley....Berks County...and northwestern New Jersey
* HAZARD TYPES...heavy snow.
* ACCUMULATIONS...6 TO 10 inches of snow. (note: accuweather predicts 4.8 inches for Long Valley)
Could be a record breaker for the month of October.
2008 had a lot of snow in October - as a matter of fact it was 3 years ago today. Think it was more than 5"
justthinking - I do remember that one. It was too early for me, then, as well... LOL
No snow storm will ever be as bad as that ice storm 3 years ago. I'll take a foot or two of snow any day over the ice we had. My husband and neighbors had to work their way down our drive with chainsaws bc so many trees came down weighed by the ice since so many leaves were still on the trees. Oh the memories....
I remember being the coldest I have ever been during this storm. No heat, power, toilets, water from Tuesday until Friday evening. No rooms available in the local hotels, no showers, unable to get out of driveway for two days - just like a pioneer lady. Finally, after two days being able to get to a restaurant (I knew many others didn't shower either.) Absolutely hated it. Driving around town I see so much damage the past few years have caused and it will never look as pretty as it did. There are so many limbs and trees hanging, till today. Now add the floods and last winter's snowstorms, I am sure dreading this winter. If I could sell my home tomorrow, I think I would.
The forecasters are saying this weekend's snow storm will be a record breaker. Didn't we get more than 5 inches with that last October ice storm in 2008? How come no one has compared this potential storm to the one in '08? How widespread was that storm? It seeemed like it was only over Long Valley. I don't even remember any warning for it. It was like, "Oh how nice, flurries!" The next thing I knew, we were out of power for 3 days. It was definitely a freak of nature!
5nj - I believe you are correct in that the area affected by the 2008 storm was really limited.
I recall that it was a total fluke - no one expected that.
I was in Virginia on business at the time and was freaking out because my daugher (in first grade) was stuck at the school. Because of the downed power lines, the roads were blocked to the school. That was such a long day for the kids.
At least this one is on the weekend and we will be staying home, together as a family, to support this.
Flanders got slammed in that storm too. Morris county was the worse hit, like usual.
Please Angelo, lets hope today isnt like your picture, although the pic is beautiful.
Let's hope that not to many trees will come down and the power will stay on. The good news is it's still early enough in the year for the snow to melt away. It's supposed to be Sunny and 45 degrees tomorrow. Try and cheer up :)
1400+ in Long Vally without power. Good luck everyone. Trees are snapping all over the place.

Of course. Why would it work when the most people are affected by the outage?
It worked when I posted it.
First Energy web showing 103400 without power in Morris county at 6:30 pm (Saturday). 3374 in long valley
Considering we are up on the mountain, we are lucky to still have power. We did lose a few trees, and more to follow I'm sure. Looks beautiful out right now...
1879 out in Long Valley. Hopefully some people are getting power back and people aren't out for as long.
Our power came back to at 9:00 pm Sunday evening. First Energy showing 1,065 in Long Valley still out as of Monday a.m. 0845; 97,800 in Morris County.
I am very grateful to the municipal employees that cleared the roads before overnight Saturday into Sunday.
