Dessert and Wine Bar
It looks like Sweet Endings (dessert shop in front of the Brew Pub) is going to be offering a dessert and wine bar in the evenings.
Interesting idea for something different in the area.
Sorry, I'm a bit of a food snob, it would be better if they actually made their own deserts in house, from scratch vs. buying them elsewhere...not too many places believe in making things from scratch, everything is pre-made and ordered from food service companies like Sysco. You'd be amazed just how much of your food is processed when you eat out! But, it is cheaper for restaurants, saves them on labor costs and ordering of ingredients etc.

I'm guessing the mega marts have forced most bakeries to save money. It's hard to niche yourself as a "premium food item" when their are so many options and so much pressure to turn profit quickly. Especially around here when the population isn't as dense.
Yet, there is 1 pizza place for every 10 households and they all survive. :)
It's nice to see someone try something new in the area.
I stopped in at sweet endings one evening and I have to agree, I felt like I was at Quick Check. I think the idea is great I would go at least once a week. But if your are not going to make deserts from scratch then buy some good stuff. The coffee machine I have at home was better than the one they had. None the less,
I plan to stop there again, with hopes things are a bit different now. I really want to support the small business community in town.
I used to work for "Restaurant Village" in Long Valley, and I can attest to the fact that their "bakery" is not a bakery at all... One or two desserts used to be made in Splash, but after the baker quit, they went to buying EVERYTHING from an outside source, and not a very good one at that.
This new attempt at a Dessert and Wine bar is a last ditch effort to generate business after the bakery turned into a total failure. Yes, running a business in a small, sparsely-populated town isn't always easy, but I've always been of the mind that if you offer a high-quality, superior product, the business will generally always sell itself.
Sadly, this was not to be the case with the bakery or splash--the food at the brew pub is decent enough to keep drawing customers back, especially based on that fact that it is one of the only large restaurants in the area with outdoor seating. slightly above-mediocre quality food, questionable kitchen cleanliness, and a pervasive odor that would make a cockroach think twice before coming by.... Coupled with beers that cost a whopping 5.25 a pint, i have always found it a little surprising that people wouldn't drive an extra five minutes for a better quality restaurant, and that's just not just sour grapes from being mistreated by the owner and general manager before I quit.
I'm sorry you feel that way...The chefs at Spalsh are wonderful, the specials are creative and excellent...Tiramisu and cannolis are made at Splash...please give Splash a try and I'm sure you'll join the many regulars who agree with me
