National Night Out?

I haven't heard anything about it this year. Are we not having it? If so, it's so sad.
I loved the sense of community that and the fireworks both had. :(

Washington Twp is listed on the National Night Out page, but it may be one of the other ones in New Jersey.

There will be no Night Out event in Long Valley this year. There will be fireworks on August 28. http://www.wtmorris.org/news/wtceo/kmwevent.html

That is so sad. First no fireworks for the 4th, now no National Night Out?
As far as I understand, one was run by W.T.C.E.O. and one by the W.T.P.D., So, is it just a coincidence that neither occurred?

I wonder if this is just a once year thing, or the way things will be from now on. :(

Due to budget constraints the WT Police dept. has less officers than in the past. Because of the geographical size of the township and in order to maintain appropriate coverage the Chief has decided that he cannot staff DARE officers any longer and the program has been done away with. Those officers are now "on the road". In the past the DARE officers organized the National Night Out event and solicited their fellow officers and community groups like the Junior Women's Club, the volunteer fire depts, the rescue squad and Teens Against Crime to assist them. The fireworks are run by another volunteer group, the WTCEO. In the past this group has put on the fireworks and the Fall Festival. It takes a lot of time and volunteer help to put on both of these events but unfortunately not enough people have stepped up to help nor has there been enough money donated to fund both events. Thus the events have been combined and scheduled for August 28. LVer - if you'd like to volunteer or donate funds they would love your help. Just go to their website which is listed in my prior post.

National Night Out is not only a night of festivities and fellowship within our communities, but an opportunity to interact with community leaders, and members of community services, such as those members of law enforcement who serve our cities continuously.

For instance, during a 2009 National Night Out in Madison Township, during a visit to a local community gathering, a resident made a New Jersey State SPCA Humane Police investigator aware of a criminal act of animal abuse and cruelty occurring in 1998 which greatly enhanced and assisted the investigation and contributed to obtaining the 2010 Title 4 animal cruelty conviction of animal trainer Jeffery Loy of the Center for Animal Behavioral Research of Chester, for "overloading" a small dog and "cause or procure by any direct or indirect means, any such act to be done".

The smallest details can have tremendous result. National Night Out is a good thing that should be celebrated in all communities of all sizes and locations.
