Swimming in Schooley's Mountain

Does anyone remember the days when you could swim at Schooley's Mountain Park? This was before I started visiting the park, but I'm assuming this was used at some point with the beach and the bath house.

Does anyone know when this was first created or have pictures of it when it was active?

Wow,yes!Somewhere in archive there are pictures of us swimming, paddleboating and picknicking in the 70's to very early 80's...I heard it closed due to pollution from the birds, than i heard it was a natural spring and some construction effected the source and ruined the lakes ability to keep living ...Id like to know the full story and make the town realize that it would be a great attribute to revive the project of getting it back to natural an dswimable.

I agree that would be great to have that back. Even if some of us were to volunteer to help out. It would be a great way for the town to get together and we could always get together there after, with a great place to swim and picnic.

That would be so nice- such a fun thing to do in the summer. I'd pay to have a summer long pass there!!

needs major work, and the water is full of algae and doesn't look too swimable atm.

i remember those days, but we are talking about 25 years ago. we use to go swimming in the lake all the time and play in the sand. i can honestly say, you can't pay me enough money to swim near there now. it is always full of geese and the water looks anything but clean. it would be so wonderful if the town cleaned up it, i would love to have my kids experience the fun summers we use to have there.

The park is a Morris County facility. They have complete control over it, the town has none.

I was led to believe that the problem was with a leaky sewer line. The Sewer pump station is located upstream from the lake.
