Tina's Portugese BBQ

Just noticed the sign driving through town today and was wondering if anyone has tried it? What is an example of food that is "Portugese BBQ"?

I've seen the menu and its similar to what I've had in other PBBQ places. Usually its chicken, ribs, pork, fish and Portuguese sausage grilled over a charcoal pit. Tasty and juicy. Haven't tried Tina's yet but looking forward to it. The menu is small but that's how most of the places I've been to are. It's not Southern style BBQ by any means.

Actually my background is Portugese. It's basicly BBQ chicken, Ribs, usually with rice and fries. But it's not "real Portugese food" just like Chinese food is not real Chinese food. It's a great alternative to fast food. You can pick up a meal for 4 people for like 20 bucks. Where did you see this sign? Do you know where this place is?

So it's basically smoked (real BBQ) with some sort of sauce? What's the sauce like?

It's located on 513/East Mill Rd right by Edward Jones.

There's really no sauce, except when you ask for spicy. It just taste spicy. It's great, but if anyone really want to try out an Authentic Portugese restaurant let me know....Anyway I plan to go to Tina's and post my comments.

It is not smoked BBQ. It is grilled over Hot Charcoal. I tried Tina's. It was OK. Kind of disappointed. The portions were on the cheap side, especially the ribs. Small and they only give you a few. The chicken was dry. I went on a Monday and maybe it was an off night. I will try it again. Nothing compared to the Portuguese BBQ places in Newark or Elizabeth. They probably think the folks in Long Valley don't know any better. But I do!!

The basic chicken and rice is excellent. Fries, were a bit soggy and salty but tasty. The place needs to be a lot bigger with table service. Food is take out only (or eat outside on the porch.) By the time it travels home, it has cooled off. Easy to fix if your house has an oven to re-warm. Flan is excellent but the real treats are the little custard cakes in philo dough. THOSE alone are worth the trip. All in all, it's a hearty, inexpensive meal. Perhaps too inexpensive if they want to stay in the game. And they should stay in the game.

We had the beef ribs and they were awesome!! They also came with some veggies that were great. I personally liked the fries but they can get soggy fast- it's hard to have a perfect take out fry. We also had the tbone steak and we were not fans. A bit tough and dry. But those beef ribs were excellent. We're going to order again this w/e and will definitely try those custard phyllo treats- they sound yummy!!

We had a party at the house and we had Tina's Portuguese BBQ do the catering. We ordered chicken and pork ribs with the fries and rice. All my guests loved it. For desert we order a whole Flan and a try of pistachio pudding it was the best. Great price too with free delivery. I'll def order agian on my next event. hope this helps.

Long Valley Guy - Just so you know Tina's closed and Liola's has opened in the same place.

Is Liola's the same food??? We were thinking of getting it for dinner and i saw there was a grand opening...I was hoping to find a menu online somewhere.

Try this thread, Kimberly. You should be able to find the menu there too.
