NYC Commuter Bus from Long Valley to Manhattan

NYC Commuter Bus from Long Valley to Manhattan

Long Valley Coach Lines is in the planning stages with the State of NJ and federal DOT of starting a new commuter bus service from the greater Long Valley area into Manhattan. We are seaking feedback from any residents of the area as to how this service will benefit you. We will use this information in our request with the D.O.T. authorities in obtaining permission for such a route. Our plan is to provide a luxury bus with Wi-Fi access, laptop power ports at each seat as well as an ergonomic corporate setting. We are considering starting the line at Rt 57 & Rt 31 in Washington (Warren). The line would come down Rt 57 to Schooley's Mtn Rd and make a pickup at the Hastings Square mall then travel up the mountain with a possible stop near the Schooley's Firehouse. The line would then come down the mountain to East Mill towards Chester. It would make another pickup in the area of Dunkin Donuts on E Mill in the valley. The line would continue out to Rt 206 in Chester and make it's final pickup at or near the Burger King and then head non-stop to Manhattan. Any input or suggestions you have would be greatly appreciated. Call our office 908-850-3200 or email longvalleycoach@gmail.com. Thanks for your help in advance. LV Coach

Love the idea! Keep us posted.

I commuted to the upper East side of Manhattan for 2 years from LV. The true door-to-desk commuting time was 2 hours. For this to be successful, you need to limit the number of stops/pick-ups. Pick one centralized location, fill the bus up there and head straight into Manhattan. People are willing to drive an extra 5-10 minutes to a central departure point if it cuts the actual time spent on the bus to a minimum.

To make this a success, you would need to operate a full schedule...not just one or two busses a day. Plus you need to think about where people will park.

I think it's a great idea--I am traveling back and forth very frequently and it would be a great convenience to have this available!

Good idea! I would be ok with just one stop in Chester and one stop in LV, driving 10 mins to the bus stop is not a big deal if it saves 30/40 minutes in stops. Also It can not cost much more then the Gladstone train for me to be interested.

What times are you looking to do in the am and pm? With NJ Transit fares increasing, now may be the time to really put this in motion.

Hi, sorry to get back to these posts so late. There is a tremendous amount of red tape and start up expenses with this thus far. I appreciate all the input and will certainly take all of this in to consideration. I think mainly it will consist of one, maybe two pickups maximum and head straight to Manhattan. This is in the early stages and it is our full intention to make this happen. It may take some time but we will get this off the ground. We will be sure and advertise this appropriately so as to make the community aware of the service. Thanks again! LV Coach Staff

I live in Tewksbury and would welcome driving a few minutes to pick up a bus in Long Valley vs. heading south to Clinton or the 90 plus minutes on the train. One of the issues in Clinton is you can't park unless you get there very early. Dunkin Donuts is an easy dropoff point. Good luck!

I think it is a great idea to have a direct connection to Manhattan. I'm thinking of buying a house in Long Valley and that will definitely help my decision. However, the bus can not have too many stops, otherwise the commute will be too long. Central location and maybe another stop would be sufficient. I believe the success of the line will rest on the travel time. Good Luck!!!

I'd definitely use it. And keeping limited stops is important, as is the price and schedule.

We are still working on getting this off the ground. All the input thus far has been great! The more input on forums lke this the better. We are able to print entries out and show them to the banks, Federal DOT, local officials etc when proving this will work. We will also be approaching Washington Twp to see if there is any assistance they can provide us given the propensity to make buying a house and living in LV a much more inviting proposition.

I would love this service !! I travel into the city 2-3x week , and woul really appreciate this option . Where would it stop in manhattan ? When can we expect to hear of the service starting ??

We are hoping it will be directly to The Port Authority Bus terminal. That's all still being proposed. There is a huge waiting list and there some red tape involved. Once we get started it may just be a simple drop off at an intersection in Manhattan. We are waiting approval from the NYC DOT on that as well. When this service finally does kickoff we will be announcing it on our website, twitter, this forum as well as nj.com and the like. We are going to advertise in local and regional newspapers as well. Thanks for checking.

Here is a service in Sussex County that is not doing well - http://www.nj.com/news/index.ssf/2010/11/one-dollar_sussex_county_shutt.html

I seriously suggest keep it both class economical and luxury. The class should be minimum of a NJ transit busses. Most of the guys I see travelling to NY are fast sleep. Nobody needs a luxury ride in these econmic times. This will for sure bring more people and eventually increase your bus count. You do not have to drop in Port authority , any subway connection close to the tunnels is fine.

(I take the dover bus...It is a 30 minute drive there and then a 75 minute bus ride to the port authority, then a 15 minute cab ride,so its a 2 hour commute.)

HOW MANY BUSES IN THE DAY?If only roundtrip to start a 6:30 am and 6:00pm monday through Friday...or we should poll the majority of users what times they need and supply the average. Most people work 9-5.
I need Saturday bus service for school 9-5,which others may use for pleasure as well as business.I think the bus would be filled because this is a service desperately needed. If we can do it for $20 roundtrip like Dover it would be affordable to all and successful. We need a reliable ,simple, steady service with pleasant professional safe drivers.advance purchase tix could have discounts and save time.Good luck with the red tapoe but it will be worth it.

Would love bus service to NYC. Weekends (even just saturday), would be a total plus. Hell, at this point, I would even settle for a bus to the NJT transit stop in peapack!....lol

I take the LakeLand bus at Mt Arlington or Rockaway Mall everyday and I live in LV.
It's a 2 hour commute door to door (each way to DOWNTOWN then I just walk to the office -- no transfers or subway).
Cost $375 a month through WAGEWORKS ($230.00 pre-tax payroll deduction).
I take it either at 6:15 or 6:30 am which means I have to leave home around 5:50 or 6:00 to make it with enough traffic time.
If I have to take the LV Coach bus from LV or Chester which is a 10 min ride for me I think it will shave off 30 mins of my commute (each way).
I agree with a centralized parking. LV has the DunkinDonuts area and Chester has the new mall area. Both of these area has enough parking for 50+ cars.
3-5 bus service schedule during the peak morning hours would be great.(6-7am with 15 min intervals). The same for the return ride.
DOWNTOWN only for me or bust.
